Editorial :Living for the weekend
Dear Friends

Photo of Pastor Brooks For many, it's only the thought of the weekend that gets them through the week. Every week is spent looking forward to the next weekend, and every weekend is spent trying to forget the old week that's just finished and the new week that's just about to start. For many, the only way to face Monday morning is to keep their eyes on Friday night, and to look forward to whatever it is that makes their weekend so worth looking forward to.

For Christians, the weekend has a special significance. It reminds us of the most significant weekend in the whole of human history. That weekend, two thousand years ago, when Jesus Christ died on the Friday and rose again from the dead just two days later.

Christians believe that when Christ died he took away the sins of a great multitude of people, paying the penalty that was due to all those who would come to faith in him. And Christians also believe that when Christ rose again, he triumphed over sin and death, and that having eternal life himself, he offers everlasting life to all, and gives pardon and peace to all who trust in him as both their Saviour and their Lord.

Meaningful faith in Jesus Christ makes the weekend really worth looking forward to. It's not about lots of alcohol, losing your head and escaping reality, but rather about having faced up to the greatest realities there are to face up to, and having found the answers in Jesus Christ.

Knowing that your sins are forgiven, your guilt is gone, that you're right with God and you're going to Heaven; now that's a weekend that's really worth living for!

If I can ever help you in any way, then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully

R. Jeremy Brooks (Pastor)
